Munich Airport MUC
About 30 kilometers north of Munich´s city centre there is Munich Airport “Franz Josef Strauss”. With two terminals and millions of passengers Munich Airport is one of the busiest airports in Europe.
Munich airport commenced operation on 17 May 1992, and replaced the former airport at Munich-Riem where today the Munich Exhibition Centre is situated. Two suburban railways (S-Bahn)connect the city centre with Munich Airport. There is also an airport bus which goes directly from Munich Hauptbahnhof (main railway station). The travel times takes about 30 to 45 minutes depending on the means of transport.
Shopping and airport tours
Both terminals of Munich airport offer a selected and exclusive range of shops focused on the needs of international travelers. Opening hours at Munich airport are different from normal shopping hours in the city. You can even go shopping on a Sunday at Munich airport while shops in the city remain closed.
Another attraction are the airport tours at Franz Josef Strauß Airport. You can take a look behind the scenes, see Jumbo planes at close range and from the visitor´s hill you can watch aeroplanes take off and land.
