Public Transport
Munich has a well developed public transport system organized by the Munich transport company MVV Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund). Partners of MVV are S-Bahn München and Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG) that operate buses, tramways and the underground railways. The S-Bahn (suburban railway) connects the city centre with Munich suburbs. Buses, trams and the U-Bahn (underground) operate in the city centre.
Rates and tickets
You can get tickets at one of the many ticket machines or over the counter in the railway stations. Inside the buses and trams there ticket machines, too. And there is a lot of information on the Homepage of MVVs in German and English.
When buying a ticket at S-Bahn you will have to pay VAT. The MVG sells tickets without VAT. This is interesting for traveling businessmen and woman who use Munich public transport for business reasons. The public transport network in Munich is divided in zones and rings and the tariff system can be even complicated for Munich locals.
