Maximilianeum - Bavarian Parliament

Maximilianeum - Bavarian Parliament

Between 1857 and 1874 King Max I commissioned the construction of the Maximilianeum. It is situated on the bank of river Isar in the borough Haidhausen. Because of the elevated position one gets a beautiful view of the monument from the Maximiliansstraße. Since 1857 the Maximilianeum is the home of a foundation for gifted students. Until the beginning of the World War II art exhibitions were held here, too.

During the Second World War two thirds of the Maximilianeum were destroyed. Since 1949 it houses the Bavarian Landtag (state parliament).
