The first art museum in the Kunstareal was the Alte Pinakothek (old art gallery), which was opened in 1836 presenting artist painting’s from the medieval times until the 18th century. The collection of Alte Pinakothek belongs to “Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlung” (the Bavarian state collection of paintings) and is one of the most important collections world-wide.
